Whitaker Makes Thirteen

The Huskers collected a thirteenth commitment for the Class of 2012 when California offensive lineman Corey Whitaker accepted a scholarship offer from Nebraska.  Rivals.com rates Whitaker as a three-star prospect.  The commitment might be considered "soft" as Whitaker may still make a scheduled trip to Oregon this weekend.  The Ducks have not yet offered Whitaker a scholarship but might well do so on his visit.  Whitaker is not the only variable between now and signing day.

Figuring out how many players can fit in the class before before letters of intent can be signed isn't a simple task.  Illinois defensive tackle Vincent Valentine will wait until signing day to announce his college destination.  The same is true for Florida offensive tackle Evan Goodman, Arizona offensive lineman Andrus Peat, and Louisiana athlete Alonzo Moore.  The Huskers would like to bring in all four players.  But what if none choose Nebraska?  Can NU afford to make four last minute offers on signing day?  Or might they have to tell one of these players that they just waited too long?

The departure of running backs Lester Ward and Collins Okafor due to graduation creates some additional space that will give the coaches more room to accept commitments.  But there are still more uncommitted players that the NU coaches have offered or could offer than there are available scholarships.  At some point, the game of musical chairs ends with either a player left standing or some extra chairs.

One thing is certain.  For the next nine days, Husker fans will remain on the edge of their seats.

If u wanna see bubba starlings clone go to YouTube and watch Trent hosick football highlights the huskers might offer him a schollie for 2013

Welcome to N!!

Could it ever happen that since we took this guy, a 2 star player, that a last minute decision of a guy that was much higher, say A. Peat or Devon Fuller, both highly ranked 4 stars chose Nebraska and we were full in this class and had to pick the lower rated guy? Essentially let the other, more desirable guy go because we were simply full? Or would we take a guys scholorship that had his chance but wasn’t producing away? I mean if we only have 3 offers to give out now, what if more happen to choose Nebraska? Wow, that would hurt. Or do we have the option of accepting the LOI or not accelting it?
Thanks. I’m biting my nails for the next 9 days!

I wouldn’t worry we should have about 5 spots (maybe 6)left due to ward and okafor leaving. Also if Peat or Fuller come our way they will find a spot. They could follow the Sec example and just oversign a guy and grayshirt one of the players counting them in next years class. Also u guys should check out this guy on YouTube. He’s a pretty tough guy and Oregon and Florida were also showing late interest.  Don’t get me wrong he’s a project but you can build on that motor

I like this commitment.  He has the ability to be a great pulling guard and quick enough to get to the edge.  Solid pick up for the Big Red.
